UPDATE: 10 LBS DOWN CHALLENGE! I LOST 12 POUNDS IN A MONTH!!!!

HEY THERE! I UPLOADED A POST A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO EXPLAINING MY 10 POUNDS DOWN CHALLENGE, AND WHY I WAS DOING IT. I STARTED OUT AT 341 POUNDS!!! AFTER MY FIRST DOCTOR'S VISIT (1/9/16), I WAS DETERMINED TO FINALLY GET MY HEALTH TOGETHER, AND STICK TO IT. 2 WEEKS AFTER MY VISIT, I GOT ON THE SCALE AT HOME, AND I HAD LOST 10 POUNDS. WHEN I VISITED MY DOCTOR ON 2/6/16, I GOT ON THE SCALE AND FOUND OUT I LOST AN ADDITIONAL 2 POUNDS; A TOTAL OF 12 POUNDS IN A MONTH (AND 2 DAYS LOL)!

HOW DID YOU DO IT? 
YOU MAY BE THINKING, "DENISHA, HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO LOSE 10 POUNDS IN TWO WEEKS?!" I SURPRISED MYSELF AT HOW QUICKLY I LOST WEIGHT TOO! THOSE TWO WEEKS AFTER SEEING MY DOCTOR WERE ABOUT EATING BETTER AND INCORPORATING EXERCISE IN MY DAILY SCHEDULE. MY SISTER TOLD ME ABOUT THE 21 DAY FIX PROGRAM, AND WANTED TO TRY IT, SO I SAID WHY NOT! 

REMINDER: MY DOCTOR WANTED ME TO COME DOWN TO 1500 CALORIES A DAY, SO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHILE YOU READ THIS. BASED ON THE 21 DAY FIX PLAN, DEPENDING ON HOW MANY CALORIES YOU INTAKE WILL DETERMINE HOW MANY SERVINGS OF FRUIT, VEGGIES, ETC YOU'LL EAT A DAY. 

I PURCHASED A SCALE FROM AMAZON.COM TO HELP TRACK MY PROGRESS. GETTING ON THE SCALE EVERY OTHER WEEK TO EVERY TWO WEEKS HELPED ME NOT BECOME DISTRACTED BY THE NUMBER. YES, THE NUMBER IS IMPORTANT, BUT I'M NOT TRYING TO BECOME OBSESSED WITH THE NUMBER. 

PORTION CONTROL WHILE STILL EATING WHAT YOU LOVE
I ALWAYS HEAR "80% OF WEIGHTLOSS IS IN THE KITCHEN; 20% IN THE GYM"...HOWEVER, I SAY 50/50. I DOWNLOADED TH FITBIT APP, AND STARTED MANAGING WHAT I WAS EATING. I STILL ATE WHAT I NORMALLY EAT, BUT I PORTION CONTROLLED MY FOOD. WHICH I BELIEVE MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN MY WEIGHTLOSS BECAUSE I WASN'T DOING IT PRIOR TO MAKING THIS CHANGE. I ALSO MADE SURE THAT MY WATER INTAKE INCREASED BETWEEN 64-96 OZ A DAY. 

EATING MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES DAILY IN SUBSTITUTION OF A LOT OF JUNK FOOD HELPED TOO. SINCE THE SEMESTER STARTED, I BEGAN TAKING MY LUNCH (ON CERTAIN DAYS), AND HAVING HEALTHY SNACKS LIKE ALMONDS, CARROTS, YOGURT, ETC. ANOTHER THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT I HAD TO EAT A LOT DURING THE DAY TO GET ALL MY CALORIES. MORE MEALS, SMALLER PORTIONS. 

IT WASN'T EASY A LOT OF THE TIME BECAUSE I USUALLY DON'T GET HUNGRY A LOT. THE MAIN REASON I WAS BINGE EATING WAS BECAUSE I WOULD WAIT UNTIL I WAS STARVING. I STOPPED DOING THAT. INSTEAD, I HAD AN ASSORTMENT OF FRUITS AND VEGGIES ON HAND TO HELP BETWEEN MEALS. 

I ALSO BEGAN TO COOK MORE AT HOME. MY SISTER USUALLY DOES THE COOKING MOST DAYS, BUT I WANTED TO TRY DIFFERENT RECIPES.

WHAT I'VE BEEN EATING
THE YOUTUBERS I WATCH HAVE GOTTEN ME INTO AVOCADOS LATELY, AND I'M FREAKING LOVING IT. I'VE REALLY BEEN INTO AVOCADO TOAST LATELY.

SPINACH SALAD HAS BECOME BAE RECENTLY, AND I COULD EAT IT EVERYDAY!

QUIONA IS THE NEW THING MY SISTER AND I EAT

LIGHT BROWN SUGAR HAS BECOME A SUBSTITUTION FOR REGULAR SUGAR IN MY COFFEE. IT'S A LOT BETTER TO ME NOW. BEFORE I WAS EA

AFTER THAT, I WENT TO YOUTUBE FOR WORKOUTS AS WELL AS MY ZUMBA DVDS AND PINTEREST FOR THOSE PRINTABLE WORKOUTS. I TRY TO SWITCH IT UP AS MUCH AS I CAN SO I WON'T GET BORED. I DO A LOT OF BODY WEIGHT EXERCISES TO TONE AS I'M LOSING WEIGHT. 

3/9/16 UPDATE: I've fallen behind a bit on my workout schedule, but started again yesterday. Again, this is what has been working for me. I tried my first HIIT workout, and actually completed it. Felt good! Baby steps!

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DENISHA? I'M RIGHT HERE! LOL!!

WHAT UP PEEPS!! 

LONG TIME, NO SEE UNLESS YOU FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA OF COURSE! I GOT LAZY I HAVE TO ADMIT. SCHOOL GOT THE BEST OF ME, AND I'M GETTING BACK TO MY OLD SELF, AND GETTING MY LIFE TOGETHER! YOU KNOW THOSE TIMES WHEN YOU FEEL UNINSPIRED, UNMOTIVATED, AND PLAIN OLE LAZY, BUT YOU KEEP MOVING FORWARD ANYWAY?!? YEAH, THAT'S HOW I'VE BEEN. BUT, I GOT TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I NEED TO GET MY SHIT TOGETHER AND DO WHAT I HAVE TO DO IN ORDER TO BE WHERE I WANT TO BE. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, AND IF YOU LISTEN TO MY RADIO SEGMENTS, YOU'D KNOW I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE YOU ALL TO MOVE FORWARD DURING THESE TIMES. 

I MISSED YOU ALL SO MUCH! I THINK WITH THE WEATHER GETTING BETTER, IT'S INSPIRED ME TO DO BETTER! SINCE I LOST 13 POUNDS, I CHILLED WITH WORKING OUT, SLIGHTLY FELL OFF, BUT NOT TOO BAD! GOT BACK ON THAT HORSE THIS WEEK, AND I'M FEELING BETTER. 

MY DOG JUST GOT ALL HIS TEETH TAKEN OUT, SO I'VE BEEN HOME THE PAST TWO DAYS TAKING CARE OF HIM! HE'S DOING BETTER EACH DAY, SO THAT'S AWESOME! I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MUCH I REALLY MISSED AND LOVED HIM, UNTIL HE WAS AWAY FROM ME FOR 2 DAYS! 2 DAYS! NOT 2 WEEKS, 2 DAYS! I KNOW! HE'S LAYING HERE AS I TYPE RIGHT NOW! 

SPRING BREAK IS COMING UP, SO I'LL DEFINITELY BE WORKING ON SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS, BUT I WILL ALSO POST MORE THIS AND NEXT WEEK! I WANT TO MAKE MORE OF AN EFFORT TO REALLY DEDICATE TIME TO MY HOBBIES BECAUSE IT MAKES ME HAPPY, AND ONE OF MY MANY STRESS RELIEFS!

MY HEALTH JOURNEY: 10 POUNDS DOWN CHALLENGE, SETTING GOALS & MOTIVATION

HELLO BEAUTY ENTHUSIASTS!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I HOPE YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY FILLED WITH FUN, FAMILY TIME, GOOD FOOD AND OF COURSE RELAXATION BECAUSE YOU WORKED HARD!! 

YOU MAY BE THINKING, "ANOTHER NEW YEAR, NEW ME STATEMENT"...NOT REALLY! I'VE ALWAYS STRUGGLED WITH MY WEIGHT THROUGHOUT MY 25 YEARS ON THIS PLANET. I'VE TRIED VARIOUS DIET PLANS THAT WORKED AT FIRST AND THEN JUST STOPPED WORKING FOR ME. I HAD TIMES WHERE I WAS VERY MOTIVATED, THEN I WOULD GIVE UP. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN THE BIGGEST ONE OUT OF MY THREE SIBLINGS, BUT I'M CURRENTLY THE BIGGEST I'VE EVER BEEN. 

I VISITED THE DOCTORS YESTERDAY, WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES! ANYWAY, I GOT ON THE SCALE AND SAW THAT I WEIGHED A SURPRISING 341 LBS!!!! O_o I KNOW RIGHT, MORBIDLY OBESE! I WAS A BIT SELF-CONSCIOUS TO SAY MY WEIGHT OUT LOUD, BUT THIS IS WHO I CURRENTLY AM. BUT, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT I AM/WILL STAY LIKE THIS FOREVER! I EXPLAINED TO MY DOCTOR THAT THE WAY I FEEL ON THE INSIDE DOESN'T MATCH HOW I LOOK ON THE OUTSIDE. 

MY DOCTOR ASKED ME, "WHAT GOAL WEIGHT DO YOU WANT TO BE?" I DIDN'T HAVE A RESPONSE BECAUSE BEING HEALTHIER WAS ALWAYS MY BIGGEST GOAL. I LOOKED AT IT LIKE THIS, IF I EAT RIGHT AND EXERCISE AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES A DAY IT'LL BEGIN TO SHOW AND I'LL BE HEALTHIER. HOWEVER, MY DOCTOR EXPLAINED TO ME THAT WHEN YOU'RE ABLE TO HAVE A GOAL AND MONITOR IF YOU'RE MAKING THIS GOAL WILL HELP YOUR JOURNEY A LOT MORE. 

MAKES SENSE, RIGHT?!? MY CONCERNS ABOUT THIS PART OF MY JOURNEY IS THE OBSESSION THAT CAN LEAD BEHIND IT. I ALWAYS SEE PEOPLE AROUND ME WHO OBSESS OVER THEIR WEIGHT, PANTS SIZE, ETC AND I DON'T WANT TO ME LIKE THAT. ON THE CONTRARY, BEING ABLE TO HOLD MYSELF ACCOUNTABLE LIKE MY DOCTOR SAID WILL HELP ME A LOT MORE IN THE LONG RUN!!! =D I NEED TO PURCHASE A SCALE, SO I CAN WEIGH MYSELF EVERY WEEK TO CHECK MY PROGRESS! 

WE FURTHER TALKED ABOUT HOW MY HEALTH CAN CREATE A LOT OF SERIOUS PROBLEMS FOR ME IF I DON'T STICK TO MAKING A CHANGE. THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS HAVE A HEALTH PROBLEM!! IT RUNS IN MY FAMILY, SO I COULD BE PRONE TO DIABETES, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE (I HAVE IT), AND ANY OTHER SERIOUS FACTORS. 

BECAUSE I KNOW I'VE LOST WEIGHT BEFORE WITH EATING RIGHT AND WORKING OUT A COUPLE DAYS A WEEK, I'M CONFIDENT THAT I CAN DO IT! AFTER TELLING MY DOCTOR THAT I AM LOOKING TO MAKING A CHANGE AND BEING HEALTHIER, SHE CHALLENGED ME TO A 60 LBS IN 6 MONTHS CHALLENGE!!! HOLY SHIT! I'M FUCKING EXCITED, NERVOUS, PUMPED...BASICALLY ALL THE FEELS WERE GOING THROUGH MY BODY!! 

WITH THAT BEING SAID, WILL YOU JOIN ME IN THIS CHALLENGE?!?! I MEET WITH MY DOCTOR AGAIN ON FEBRUARY 6, 2016!! THAT'S 1 MONTH! PRIOR TO MEETING WITH HER, I STARTED WORKING OUT MORE, THEN I GOT SICK. I'M GETTING OVER MY COLD, SO SINCE YESTERDAY I STARTED WORKING OUT AND CHANGING MY EATING HABITS!!
